However, there are still many C++ programmers out there so there still some PL researchers working on C++, and it is a nice/uncrowded niche if you can stomach it. Though the debate between the followers of C and C++ will always be there but I personally think that both the languages have little overlapping area of usage. It adds value to C++ when compared with C. (although the phrasing of "memory allocated by the compiler" is done right only by Memory as a Programming Concept in C and C++). The first two sources talk about them being equivalent, while the rest make the distinction. Re "hierarchical & sequential": con/destructors and RAII ultimately tie memory and resource lifetime to sequential control flow through hierarchically nested scopes. The concept of references in C++ is simple, interesting and useful to programmers. Many of these efforts, notably the C++0x concept design, have run into trouble by focusing on the design of language features.
